Holiday horrors: case studies show we’re there when you need us
It’s easy to be sceptical sometimes.
But at World First Travel Insurance we think it’s essential to provide travel policies that our customers can really count on. If you get in to trouble abroad, we’ll be there. And we offer access to 24/7 emergency assistance and customer care to make sure you get the help you need – wherever you are in the world.
Of course, we wouldn’t expect you to just take our word for it.
Here are some recent examples of how we’ve helped our policyholders when their holidays were struck by the unexpected. Just use the links if you’d like to read more about any of the stories we mention. We want you to be as confident about our policies as we are.
The worst kind of European trip
What happened?
While on holiday in Europe, Mrs Crispin tripped on a poorly maintained pavement. As she fell, Mrs Crispin caught her face on a kerb and required an operation to repair her right eye socket and remove bone fragments from soft tissue in her face.
How we helped
We paid for all of Mrs Crispin’s medical care and offered her early repatriation to get treatment in the UK. As Mrs Crispin was abroad we offered her access to an interpreter to help her communicate with her medical team abroad, staying in touch regularly to check on Mrs Crispin’s progress and make sure everything was in place to make her journey home comfortable. Together with our legal partner we are also processing a legal liability case for the Crispins to help them claim compensation for any financial disadvantage and inconvenience the accident has caused them.
What they say
“We’ve been customers of World First for just a couple of years, coming to them having read recommendations in The Telegraph. Because of my health, having had a minor stroke several years ago, and our age they offer us the best value cover and this is backed up with wonderful customer service. I recommend them most highly.”
A fall in the Far East
What happened?
During a holiday in Burma, Mrs N from London fell in her hotel room, breaking her hip in three places.
How we helped
World First helped to transfer Mrs N by air ambulance to a specialist hospital in Bangkok so she could get the medical attention she needed. We paid for her ten days of treatment and repatriation to the UK, sending a fully qualified nurse out from the UK to travel with her and make sure she was comfortable. When Mrs N was back on English turf, we even arranged and paid for an ambulance to take her from Heathrow to her home.
What they say
“I can’t speak highly enough of the assistance I received. The care, expert knowledge and attention to detail from World First and their emergency assistance provider, May Day Assistance, was absolutely fantastic, making a dreadful situation bearable. World First got me world class care.”
Out of luck in Las Vegas
What happened?
Mrs Jacobs from Devon was diagnosed with pancreatitis during a holiday in Las Vegas.
How we helped
We funded Mrs Jacobs’ ten days of hospital treatment and arranged her repatriation to the UK as soon as it was safe for her to travel.
What they say
“From my very first call, World First provided exemplary customer service. I was fully supported every step of the way in getting my wife excellent medical treatment to getting her home safely and comfortably. World First demonstrated such professionalism and genuine concern and care for us. I can’t speak highly enough of them.”
Cruise hits troubled water
What happened?
World First policyholder Mrs Bates encountered heart problems during a world cruise. At the instruction of a doctor, Mrs Bates disembarked her cruise and underwent medical tests in a cardiology ward in Madeira before being asked to rest for a week in a hotel.
How we helped
All medical costs were covered by Mrs Bates’ policy. We also covered the cost of flying Mrs Bates, her husband and her concerned family members back to the UK as soon as she had recovered. To date we have covered over £6,000 worth of medical costs associated with Mrs Bates’ unexpected illness.
