5 top resources for hassle-free holidays
No one likes to think of the unexpected.
And that’s especially true when you have a holiday to look forward to.
Bad news: as travel insurers we know that sometimes things go wrong on holiday. Good news: spending a few minutes planning at home before you jet off will help make sure you stay safe and enjoy a memorable, hassle-free holiday. Just the way it should be.
Here are some free online resources that will help.
NHS Choices
Travelling in Europe? Get a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). (Don’t worry, it’s free.) An EHIC entitles you to the same level of free medical care as the locals of the country you are visiting receive. Remember the old E111? This is the same kind of thing. Visit the NHS Choices website to apply for your EHIC and read up on healthcare abroad.
FCO travel advice
You can get up-to-the-minute information on your destination from the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Is the local water safe to drink? Are there are any quirky local laws you should know about? Do you need any vaccinations before your holiday? The FCO website will tell you, giving you clear information on who you can contact if something does go wrong.
National Travel Health Network & Centre (NaTHNaC)
Bizarre trinkets, kooky fridge magnets and cute snow globes are all great. But for lots of people, the best thing to bring back from holiday is a sun-kissed tan. The problem is that people aren’t paying attention to the dangers of sun exposure. Skin cancer is now one of the most common cancers in the UK. For tips on how to stay safe in the sun, as well as advice on a range of other health risks related to travel such as deep vein thrombosis and mosquito bites, visit the NaTHNaC website.
World Health Organization
You can stay on right on top of the latest global disease outbreaks by visiting the World Health Organization’s website. Their website also features clear advice on the diseases you need to take precautions for according to your destination.
Weather 2 Travel
Shorts or trousers? T-shirts or cardigans? Weather 2 Travel gives you an accurate forecast on the weather conditions in your destination up to a month in advance. And if you’re a super-keen planner, you can take a look at monthly averages for over 4,000 locations. View average hours of sunshine, daylight hours, UV index, temperature and more.
Jetting off soon? Don’t forget to get cost-effective travel insurance from www.world-first.co.uk.
