The World First Wander – the Internet’s best travel blogs
Welcome to another edition of the World First Wander, our weekly compendium of the very best in travel writing and blogging. Each week we scour the internet – so you don’t have to – in search of blogs and stories we think you’ll love. It is compiled, as always, by our social media man, Tristan Rothwell.
This week we head to Prague, avoid pickpockets, take in a beautiful walk and find out where to take the kids in London this half term.
First up this week is a regular. Jodie, also known as The Little Backpacker, sends us on our way with 35 reasons why you should take a gap year. They are great reasons and apply to anyone who ever thought about taking a year out, no matter whether they are 18 or 80. Number 29 caught our eye as it’s probably the only reason you ever need. Take a look, it’s a great read.
Walking next. Who doesn’t love a walk? Global Grasshopper do. Their latest post, Top 15 most beautiful walks in the UK, is sure to get many of you reaching for the walking boots and the pac-a-macs. The Lamorna to Kemyel via Mousehole walk, in particular, is a cracker! How do I know? It’s where I grew up. So take that as a personal recommendation!
Half term is looming and parents all over the UK will be wondering what to do with their little darlings. Fear not! If you are in the London area then Mums Do travel has a few ideas for you in their latest post, Things to do in London with Kids: February. The Art of the Brick exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery on brick Lane looks amazing. If your kids love Lego then they will love this. It’s worth going for the venue alone!
I love a list. You too? Then you will enjoy Tim Kroeger’s 100 things I have learnt while travelling around the world. It’s a long list but it also includes some veritable truths about travel. Anyone who loves to see the world will agree with many of Tim’s 100.
We recently featured an article on our news page that Prague is the cheapest place to visit in 2015, so with that in mind I thought it would be useful to include this next post from Hand Luggage Only. Prague looks amazing and the pictures in this post prove it. Take a look at 8 free or really cheap things to do, see or eat in Prague. And, of course, if you want to get covered for a few days away, get in touch. I just got a quote for a World First Economy travel insurance policy for 3 days in Prague and it was less than £10!!!
The most important thing about travel is having fun – in my humble opinion - but it’s also important to stay safe from scams, pickpockets and phony goods. It’s the reason I am finishing off this week with an article from The Mail Online – as it may well help to save your holiday.
Take a look at Top 10 Travel Scams revealed (and how you can avoid them), travel safe and remember that you are only a phone call away from emergency assistance with any of our travel insurance policies.
That’s it for this week.
