The World First Wander: travel blogs we loved this week

Welcome to our weekly look at what’s hot in the world of travel and travel writing from around the globe. Each week we scour the internet to bring you the definitive “what’s hot” in travel blogging, compiled by our social media man Tristan Rothwell.

There are so many good writers out there that it’s sometimes difficult to know where to start! But this week is easy. We’re kicking off with a demon at the airport… why ever not…?

Are you a demon at the airport?

Does flying turn you into a demon?

Travel blogger Tara from Where is Tara is! Airports are stressful, we all know that, but Tara has opened up her personal Pandora’s Box and exposed the demon inside in this first post. She has compiled a list what gets her mad before takeoff.  A lot of these ring true, especially No Free Wi-Fi at number 6 on the list. It’s something that drives us mad too and should be at the very top of the list. So what annoys you? Have a read of Tara’s 10 reasons why I turn into a demon in the Airport and tell us what would be your number one.

Oh we do love to be beside the seaside

Brighton next. It’s a fantastic place to spend a weekend away. But if you have yet to sample the delights of England’s favourite seaside resort, it may pay to check out our latest post from  Hand Luggage Only. They have compiled a great list of  7 fun experiences you need to have in Brighton. These guys always write great stuff so give it a read.

Sending your mum packing

How long is it since you treated your folks to a weekend away? Has it been a while? Well, this next post from Katie, who is also known as Tatty Travels, might make you feel guilty, or at least give you some ideas! Check out Planning a city break for my mother. Where would you send Mum and Dad on a city break? Suggestions please.

Loving the City of Love

Oh Paris, the City of Love! And love it we do, with 83.7 million visitors to the French capital recorded last year. As a destination it was only surpassed by The USA, with the UK limping in at a mere 32 million. If you are thinking of travelling to the French capital this autumn and are not sure what might be in store, then we will send Kash Bhattacharya to the rescue! Kash runs the Budget Traveller Blog which has featured here quite a few times before…why? Because it’s a great blog. Check out Things to do in Paris this fall (OK, he’s forgotten he’s British and really means autumn).

Please do stray from the path

travel blogs

Seek out the lesser known and you will surely find gold. Paris.

While the well beaten path often leads you to the best, or most popular stuff, the path less travelled can offer some of the greatest rewards. Sometimes you will stumble upon pure gold, even in a well visited place like Paris.  That’s what this next post, from Emily Luxton, is all about. Paris off the beaten path is all about digging a little deeper to find the really good stuff. Fancy a trip to the sewers?

Is travelling with asthma possible?

Of course it is. We have been providing travel insurance for people with Asthma for years. Our next blog, from Amy Trumpeter’s  Globetrotter  Guru Travel Blog, says it’s should be no problem, but don’t forget to declare asthma to your insurer. It’s all in her post Travelling with Asthma. Incidentally, we wrote about declaring medical conditions and why it’s so important in our blog a while ago. So if you want clarification, check it out.

Rome with a disability - yes you can!

travel blogs

The cobbles in St Peter's Square (and in Rome in general) don't make it easy for wheelchair users, but not impossible.

Carrie-Ann Lightley featured here  back in 2011. She is from our friends at Tourism for all and has also written for Disability Horizons, a disability lifestyle magazine. She recently visited Rome and has written about it in her post Disability and Travel – Navigating Rome. She says that although the cobbled streets make it tough for wheelchair users, it’s no reason not to visit. And it’s definitely worth it!

Well that’s it for another week. I hope you like some of the blogs I have selected for you.

As always finding new travel blogs to follow is part of the joy of writing The World First Wander, so if you want your travel blog to feature here, tweet me a link @WFTristan or leave a comment in the box below.

Until next week.
