Travel Insurance – Swine Flu Questions
We’ve had an understandable increase in telephone calls over recent weeks as a result of the increasing Swine Flu problem. Both World First Travel Insurance and our insurers are working together to ensure all policyholders receive the most appropriate advice, and assistance where necessary.
We decided to post some quick questions and answers on the blog to help:
- I am worried about swine flu. Can I cancel my holiday?
If a customer chooses to cancel their holiday they are not covered under our travel insurance policy, as this is their own personal disinclination to travel. - Will I be covered if I get Swine Flu?
Yes. In order to make a claim for cancellation of a holiday or travel plans, we will require medical evidence of the claim. This can be in the form of a Doctor’s Certificate or a reference/authorisation number which will be provided by the National Pandemic Flu Service. - What if I am turned away at the airport due to showing signs of swine flu?
If you haven’t been given a diagnosis, this is not covered by the policy. We would advise to contact the airline help desk and seek alternatives or contact the National Pandemic Flu Service to obtain a diagnosis and then submit a claim as detailed above.
