The use of medical screening software integrated into call centres and the increasingly complex computer systems used by specialist travel insurance companies has grown dramatically over the last few years. Most major insurers, including World First travel insurance, now utilise some form of medical screening or risk assessment tool such as those provided by third party software houses including Travel and Medical Insurance Services Ltd (TAMIS), Healix IT (used by Preferential Travel Insurance and Holiday Extras) and Medi-Quote Expert (used by Columbus International and Club Direct Insurance).

These software programmes are used to help insurers control ane better consider risk. We’ve been providing medical travel insurance for people with pre-existing medical conditions for a very long time and we’re the first company in the UK to offer HIV travel insurance - A claim occasionally made by one of our competitors who knows very well that we were first because we were behind his first product too, but enough of that.

When we are asked to cover HIV we need to ask a series of questions which is just the same process as we would undertake if asked to cover any other medical condition, and we cover 1000′s including cancer, heart problems and diabetes. The World First website was honoured to be made a finalist in the Travolution awards for best travel insurance website. The Awards celebrate the achievements of the industry and recognise innovation and outstanding strategy. They are judged by an independent panel of experts and a committee of senior people from the online travel industry who review the entries and select a winner for each category.
