World Cup blues? Why go round the world when you can find solace in Newquay?

Yesterday, I wrote about ways to burn off the steam and anger after the disastrous World Cup campaign and suggested a few, lets say extreme, holidays that you could take to get the adrenalin going. But you don’t need to go to the other side of the world to find thrills and spills, to do something different or just to find a bit of peace. Just take the example of Newquay. An ancient fishing village on the Cornish coast, famous for surfing, wind and the cold water. But much more. And by the way, this isn’t an informercial, I’m not supported by the Cornish Office of Tourism or whatever its called, I just like it. (more…)

Not enough thrills with the World Cup? Time to go on a real holiday.

So it’s over. The phone ins are talking about nothing else, the Fabio will he/won’t he resign or will he be pushed debate is in full swing and there’s just a general hungover feeling. We can blame rotten defending (John Terry, what were you doing? You’re supposed to be able to clear up a route one ball punted from one end of the pitch to the other), shaky self-belief or over paid prima donas, the World Cup dream (for England at least) is over for another four years. It’s time to turn back to more mundane things like going on holiday to forget all the depression of this Tuesday morning. Why not do something truly unforgettable and go on an extreme holiday? South Africa 2010: should I stay or should I go?

The World Cup 2010 is upon us. It seems like 5 minutes since the announcement that South Africa had won the right to hold the event and it’s taking place already. Now we can dare to hope that the (now) 44 years of hurt can be ended, the false profits and the bad pundits will be rolled out and we will yet again be lamenting the fact that England can’t get beyond the quarter finals of a major competition.
