The kids are back at school. Now’s the time to find a holiday bargain.

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Couple packing for holidayFinding the perfect getaway during the summer holidays can be difficult. Hotels are busier and flight prices are inflated as families seek to make the most of their children’s time off. But the summer holidays are over! The kids are back at school and many holiday retailers and airlines have dropped their prices. So if you don’t have school-aged kids of your own, you could be quids in on a spontaneous sunshine escape.

Let’s not beat around the bush. The summer has been pretty disappointing weather-wise. So you could be forgiven if you’ve been harbouring desires to jet-off in search of a little late-summer sun to top up the tan before the winter arrives. What’s great is that doing just that needn’t break the bank. In fact, it’s a great time to scoop a holiday bargain.

How e-readers will change your holiday reading forever

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

For many of us, going on holiday is one of those rare times when you can settle into a deckchair and get stuck into a really good book. It’s a glorious indulgence isn’t it? Once you know that everything, including the travel insurance, is in order you can begin to relax.

I love reading and adore books so I’ve spent many trips hauling piles of novels around with me. On one trip, to India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Bali I endured a couple of months with three volumes of Indian epic ‘A Suitable Boy’ in my rucksack. They must have weighed over a kilo but I just couldn’t bear to be parted from them. What a fool I was. But then again, they hadn’t invented e-readers yet!

Strike threatens summer holiday plans

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

We have heard today that air traffic controllers are expected to be among 750,000 workers who will join a day of mass strikes that are planned by trade unions for the 30th June. If this happens then the travel industry will face more delays, cancellations and travel misery. Oh dear.

If you are due to be travelling on the 30th June or shortly after then it should be noted that you will be covered for Travel Delay, Abandonment and Missed Departure on your World First Travel Insurance policy as long as you took out your policy before 16th June (today) at 0800 GMT.

Unfortunately anyone who took out a policy after this cut off time will not be covered. However, as usual, your airline should be responsible for offering you alternate flights or compensation for additional accommodation.

We will update this story as and when we hear more.
